A 14-15 inch box is going to be a great starting point for most people, but as with anything, it depends. If you're someone who "tucks under" (butt wink) and goes into spinal flexion in the bottom postion of the squat, I'd rather you squat to a depth that prevents that from happening in the first place. If it has to be higher than 14-15 inches, so be it. From there, you'd want to focus on the actual issues: limited ankle dorsiflexion/poor core stability, etc. A bench is going to be too high for most, but may serve as a nice starting point to help groove a proper hip hinge pattern.
